This is a beautiful early 1800s copper jam pan with bronze handles handcrafted in france at the time of king charles x. It is rare given its condition, quality and thickness. This particular one has rather squared handles than rounded ones which also adds to its uniqueness.
We're glad to share it and happy to explain the other ways in which we find it special. What is a jam pan. A pan for making jam of course.
But why would you need a pan designed specifically for making jam well, making jam was a much more common occurrence in the last few hundred years than it is today. That's because it's a great way of preserving fruit to ensure you have something to eat months and years into the future. Also to ensure nothing goes to waste. If you have an abundance of fruit, make jam. Copper is the natural choice for a jam pan during this time period and is still revered today for its superior ability to make jam than any other materials. What makes this piece unique (assembly, condition). This antique jam pan is it is heavy and thick - the handles are made of bronze and the copper was pressed from a single sheet. The craftsmanship makes it worthy to hang on a wall in a farmhouse or rustic environment. It is also ready to make jam in for the bakers or patissiers among us. We hope this goes to someone who will care for it, use it, and ensure it lives a long time.
