The surface is not totally smooth from where the molten tin had cooled before it had been perfectly hand wiped flat. The copper exterior looks like it was wire brushed, and has dulled a little, but i have fully hand polished it twice now and it is coming back to a shine and it will only improved with every future polish. The craftsmanship build quality of this pan is the very best that you can get. Around 100 + yrs old and still going strong. These pans will still outlast anything out there, it is as solid today as when first made.It will last many more family generations to come such is the build quality. Built for fast sauce reductions, but this pan could so easily become your pan of choice for any cooking task, it is so versatile.
