Stunning, very large, vintage, french, copper teapot with brass lid handle and copper rivets. Possibly circa early 20th century, although could be earlier. This is a beautiful and unusual item that has been sourced in normandy, france. However, may have its origins in northern africa or the middle east. The base of the teapot is stamped with the words "gaston bataille".
The item has been tinned internally, including the lid and would therefore indicate that the piece is a practical item and would have been used, rather than a decorative item. The tinning appears to be in relatively good condition, but may need to be re-tinned for use. The handle and hinges are solid copper and are complete with copper rivets and the base of the unit is weighted.
The seams have been soldered and brazed. The item is in generally very good condition, with no dents or splits. The base and the sides do show signs of the original hand beaten finish. This striking piece would make a stunning addition to any home.
