This is a lovely example of how the victorians had a piece of kit for just about everything. This is an egg coddler, or egg boiler. Something that would grace an elegant breakfast table. Consisting of a two part egg shaped container on 3 scrolled legs, the top of the egg removes to show the 4 egg holder held within.A bird of prey sits atop the item, the original spirit burner sits beneath. Made in the mid 1800's, the condition is good. There is wear to the silver plate on the spirit burner & a tiny bit next to the bird (shown in images). It stands at 23.5cm & approx 13.5 at the widest. I have also included a small page from an old book that had been stored inside with some info on egg boilers. This item is made of silver plate.
